U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday he has found an affordable program for students from countries with low or no graduation rates, such as Brazil and Turkey.
Sanders, a U.N. Peacekeeper, said he found a program through a website called FindAnUncGreece.org, which he said is working with a group of international students from Brazil, Turkey, Israel and other countries.
The students are interested in studying in countries where there are low graduation rates and there are no job opportunities.
Sanders said he believes the program would help students like his son, who is studying at Columbia University.
Sanders noted that the students are from many different countries, but said the goal is to give them the chance to work.
“The goal is for them to be able to pursue a good life for themselves,” Sanders said.
Sanders has been calling on Congress to create a study abroad tax credit to help pay for international study.
Sanders plans to introduce his legislation during the Democratic convention this summer.
